Curry availability for Game 4 remains doubtful

Golden State Warriors is unlikely to get a Stephen Curry boost against the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 4 of their playoffs, says Warriors coach Steve Kerr.

“I would just say he’s doubtful but slowly and surely making progress,” Kerr said.

Curry has been out since Game 4 of the series against the Houston Rockets with a knee injury, and has returned to light practice sessions. He sprained his right MCL at the time as he slipped on a damp spot of the floor.

But thus far, the Warriors had exercised caution, easing him in on-court drills even though the team more than felt his absence in their 108-120 defeat at the hands of the Blazers.

So far, the Warriors lead the series by 2-1, but as playoffs go, they could not take anything for granted.

Kerr also insisted that Curry’s availability would depend on the player’s physical condition rather than the team’s needs.

“The trainers would have to tell me he’s good to go,” Kerr said. “Steph would have to say he’s good to go. And then we would have to figure out a plan from there.”

“He looked about like he looked yesterday, in terms of movement,” he added. “Conditioning is going to be an issue, but hopefully he can get more and more work in, and we’ll see how he comes up, in terms of a night of sleep coming off the workout.”

In the regular season, Curry had averaged at 30.1 points per game, but appeared in only two playoff games before his injury struck. The reigning MVP will then go through the team’s shootaround after which his status will be reevaluated.
