Manchester United and Crystal Palace will meet each other in the FA Cup finals as both teams won 2-1 against their respective opponents.
Anthony Martial scored a late winner to help United to their first realistic chance for silverware since Sir Alex Ferguson retirement and to allay fears for yet another premature managerial departure since then.
Louis van Gaal had been surrounded by constant speculation on his future in Old Trafford, but in the very least, he could now hope to maintain his record of winning a trophy at every club he managed.
The Red Devils pulled ahead initially at 34th minutes after play as Marouane Fellaini made a close-range finish – but the team needed David de Gea to prevent an equalizer from a Romelu Lukaku penalty.
The Old Trafford faithful would have pulled even further ahead early in the second half when Rashford and Martial combined neatly to leave Jesse Lingard a shooting chance from the edge of the area, but a well-worked opportunity was let down by the accuracy of the shot.
Under jeers, a lackluster Everton rallied after half-time and made it 1-1 as Chris Smalling deflected Gerard Deulofeu’s cross into his own net.
The game looked destined for extra time, but when Phil Jagielka could not quite cut out Ander Herrera’s pass to Martial in stoppage time the United forward was on to it in a flash and the finish was emphatic.
Meanwhile, Connor Wickham stars for Crystal Palace as he scored his team’s winner against Watford to advance his team into their first FA cup final in 26 years.
Yannick Bolasie brought Palace ahead early at Wembley with a header, but Watford levelled in the second half when Troy Deeney nodded home Jose Manuel Jurado’s corner.
But Crystal Palace maintained their best performance in what was a bizarre season, securing their winner through Connor Wickham’s header.
The final will be held on 21 May, an exact same situation where Palace and United fired to a 3-3 draw before the Red Devils made 1-0 winners in the replay. Then, it saved Alex Ferguson’s very career before it proceeded to become the trophy laden legend it is now.
