Euro 2016 first match results and second match predictions

Spain’s Gerard Pique left it late to score his team’s sole goal against a stubborn Czech Republic.

In a play reminiscent of Barcelona’s style, Andres Iniesta flips a cross for the defender, who heads the ball past Petr Cech with 3 minutes left to play. But it was all that was needed for Spain as they attempt to win a record-breaking third consecutive European Championship.

Meanwhile at the Parc des Princes, Real Madrid’s Luka Modric scored a sensational long-range volley as Croatia deservedly opened their Euro 2016 campaign with victory over Turkey.

Ireland was left frustrated after they endured a frustrating draw after a painful Ciaran Clark own goal.

The mistake costs Wes Hoolahan’s dazzling opener volley against Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s Sweden, and the match culminated with a draw.

Meanwhile, Italy proved to everyone that rankings do not matter in any tournament as they began their own European campaign with a significant 2-0 win over Belgium, who is number one in FIFA’s world rankings.

Italy triumphed with superior discipline and organization against Belgian players who possess greater talent, on paper at least.

Emanuele Giaccherini slotted home in the first half as he gathers Leonardo Bonucci’s superb long pass, while Graziano Pelle sealed the win in injury time with an emphatic volley following an incisive break.

Aleksandar Dragovic was subsequently sent off for a second bookable offence before Zoltan Stieber sealed Hungary’s win with a composed dink.
