No problem for Williams and Djokovic in quarter finals

Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams, both top seeds in different categories of the Australian Open event, progressed through to the semi-finals of the Grand Slam event as both players put down their opponents in straight sets.

For Djokovic, there was no sign of his struggle against Gilles Simon in the fourth round, where the Serb made a shocking amount of 100 unforced errors.

Instead, seventh-seeded Kei Nishikori was the error-prone player, missing a grand total of 54 shots and lost by 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to the world number one.

Although Djokovic himself have cut his unforced errors down to around a quarter of his last, he only managed to score 22-winners against the Japanese in the 2 hours and 7 minutes match.

But to cut down on the errors is the one thing in Djokovic’s mind, and he said that, “Yes, that was the goal, to decrease the unforced errors ratio. I’ve done that. I knew that I’m going to play against an opponent that plays very fast, faster than Simon.”

“I tried to weather the storm, hang in there. He came up and played first couple games very fast, very quick. Took the ball early, being very aggressive from both corners. I expected that.”

Djokovic also made good on his promise after his last match, where he agreed with a heckler that he needed to cut down on his drop shots. He did so against Nishikori.

Meanwhile, all eyes were eagerly anticipating the match between women’s top seed Serena Williams match and her longtime rival Maria Sharapova.

The match may have come across as a slight let-down as the defending champion cruised and saw off her fifth seed opponent 6-4, 6-1, defeating the Russian for the eighteenth straight time.

After a competitive opening match, Sharapova appeared to gave way as Williams was 5-0 up before she managed to take one set to avoid the bagel, and only managed 3 aces in the whole game.

“Doesn’t matter who I’m playing, I just try to go out there and play the best I can,” Williams said after the match. “It’s not necessarily anyone in particular.”

As the American sets up a semi-final encounter against fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska, the men’s category heats up with a match potentially filled with fireworks as Novak Djokovic play against longtime tennis maestro Roger Federer.
