Spylce, Giants Gaming and Team Roccat retain LCS hope

The European League Championship Series (LCS) has come to a conclusion as Spylce, Giants Gaming and Team Roccat book their places in the summer season.

Earlier, Giants were in danger of disqualification after being narrowly beaten by Splyce at 3-2. Splyce had a hard time cracking the Giants, as the latter led the final game well until 43rd minute.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and Splyce went with a high-risk high-reward Baron Nashor takedown that won the game and thus, the series.

But Giants gaming were merely being delayed. The team had pushed huge roster changes three weeks ago and one more last week in hopes of doing whatever it takes to remain on the LCS, and it ultimately paid off.

Lennart “SmittyJ” Warkus, Son “S0NSTAR” Seung-ik and Morgan “Hustlin” Granberg made their keep by combining to make 36 kills, eight deaths and 93 assists in their three winning games. The only Giants player that remained on the roster, Isaac “Xpepii” Flores flourished too.

The team rallied after the defeat against Splyce with a convincing 3-1 win against Huma, the top squad of the 2016 European Challenger Series spring season. Huma’s only win came from a standout performance from Dan “Godbro” Van Vo (8/1/4 KDA, 75 percent kill participation ratio).

Meanwhile, Felix “Betsy” Edling and Karim “Airwaks” Benghalia powered Team Roccat to a 3-1 victory against Huma.

It was a sheer show of class as Roccat’s mid laner got “Flame Horizon” (killing 100 more minions than his positional opponent) well before the 15-minute mark. But Airwaks also showed great sportsmanship as he took responsibility for the team’s only loss.

“I think we lost Game 3 because I got caught too (many) times,” he explained, “This game should’ve been won if I played better.”

But in a nutshell, these three teams need to either implement changes or start working on their game to avoid another promotion tournament. Giants top-laner Lennart “Smittyj” Warkus described that “it was a really exhausting” as his team played 14 games, with back-to-back five-game series that went to the deciding game.
